Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

The ultimate spa destination situated in the heart of the Lake District. Low Wood Bay offers spectacular panoramic views of Lake Windermere which truly enhances your relaxation in the indoor/outdoor thermal experiences.

Have you ever been to Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa?! If not, my question to you is, what are you waiting for?!

My most recent spa getaway at the luxury lake district hotel was definitely one to remember. The hotel is perfectly nestled on the shorelines of lake Windermere with stunning views that you would expect to see on a postcard.

As part of our stay we had access to the health club which was ideal when we arrived after our long drive of 3.5hours, we enjoyed the indoor pool, jacuzzi, infra-red sauna and steam room. We also had the choice to access the gym and take part in fitness classes (which funnily enough, we decided against). The food we had whilst visiting was lovely, especially our dinner at Blue Smoke on the Bay and the Wood-Fired Afternoon Tea.

As part of our package we were able to have 3 hours in the spa itself, initially I was disappointed, as you all know reading this, the spa is the ONLY reason I go to these places, however it was 3 hours of pure relaxation, inside and out.

Starting from the dry salt room, to the coconut steam room, then onto the refreshing warm rain or cool mist showers and finishing indoors with the thermal currents in the heated pool it was heavenly. We then stepped outside to experience the infinity pool, outside sauna and hot tubs.

The outdoor bar overlooking the lake was a lovely touch and if I wasn't driving 3.5 hours home that evening I would have definitely treated myself to a Prosecco or two, however a cappuccino in the infinity pool was the next best thing.

Unfortunately due to a miscommunication with the reception when I booked the stay we were unable to book more than a 30min treatment, which was a shame as it was lovely.

We had the Berry & Birch Tailor Made Massage Treatment Duration: 30 Min Treatment Price: £50

A bespoke approach to massage. You are in charge here – choose the length of your treatment when booking, then in your consultation with your therapist choose which areas you would like to focus on, the type of pressure you would like from Deep, Medium or light pressure and we select the body oil best suits your needs.- Leave the rest up to us!”

My therapist really took the time to listen to my areas of concern which I usually find is rare in spas that I have been to before and the moves she performed were obviously bespoke to my concerns. I had no idea what was coming next which is great for someone like me who is used to massages, it allowed me to fully switch off and relax when having the treatment. I asked for firm pressure which I got, the only downside was that it definitely wasn’t long enough! If I am to return I would have a 90min massage next time for sure!

The one let down I would say with my stay here is that I only booked for 1 night, it was definitely not enough, I would recommend more time to explore the surroundings!

LOCATION 10/10

If I haven’t already mentioned it enough, the views were pretty good!

STYLE 9/10 The spa itself was decorated beautifully, clean, modern and relaxing.

SERVICE 9/10 No faults at all.

FACILITIES 9/10 Indoor relaxation pool, Infinity heated outdoor pool, Coconut steam room, Herbal lounge, Thermal and vitality pool, Outdoor Fellside sauna, Bubble spa, Relaxation lounge, Dry salt room, Hanging chairs, Outdoor hot tubs, Outdoor shower and ice.

FOOD & DRINK 8/10 I can’t comment on the Windermere Restaurant however the choice for breakfast was great, dinner at the Blue Smoke Restaurant was delicious and the Wood-Fired Afternoon Tea was a great change to the original afternoon tea. The salted chocolate brownies in the spa were also a massive hit!!! 10/10 for those!

VALUE FOR MONEY 8/10

I would struggle to put a price on those stunning views however I would say it is pretty pricey if I was to compare it to spas I have been to.

OVERALL 9/10

Would I return? YES, absolutely!
